The Department of the Air Force invites the public to an Aug. 20 open house in Plattsburgh, N.Y., where
restoration experts will share updates on environmental cleanup efforts at the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base.
The meeting runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Town of Plattsburgh Conference Room – 151 Banker Road, Plattsburgh, N.Y., 12901
“We want to be as open as possible about our progress,” said David Farnsworth,
Base Realignment and Closure Environmental Coordinator who oversees Plattsburgh cleanup activities. “We’ll be sharing what we’ve done over the past year and what we plan to do next.”
The base closed in 1995 under the BRAC program. Since then, the Department of
Defense has spent more than $128 million on cleanup efforts at the one-time home
of the 380th Air Refueling Wing. So far, 93 percent of the sites at the base have achieved site closeout and are safe for any type of use.
Topics at the open house include:
· Results of groundwater, drinking water, and soil sampling.
· Findings from recent environmental investigations.
· Future cleanup and monitoring plans for the area.
